recent advances and open problems

Recent advances on some aspects of the biology and the control of V. destructor as well as open problems are presented. The current taxonomy of the Varroa genus and the limits of the chemical control of the mite are illustrated. The potential of the microbiological control and the perspectives of reaching a balance between A. mellifera and V. destructor are examined. Finally, some recent findings on the host-parasite relationship and in particular on the chemical communication between the bee and the mite are discussed.
